History of Parrotvilla
It all began with Mr. Marian,
our Marian has been keen on nature ever since his childhood - specially birds. He lived on the countryside and as a teenager held an aviary with simple parakeets. In his 30-ies Marian fed up with his business, sold his successful food factory and came back to birds. It was 1999 when Marian bought a picturesque fish lake and surrounding land in a rural area thriving with wildlife. 3 hectare in size it was enough start-up space to seriously consider going after his dream of breeding exotic birds.
As a first Marian built himself a house and a single building with 15 aviaries dedicated exclusively to the breeding of birds, construction works completed in 2001. About June of that same year he applied for an official breeding certification and in October 2001 the Slovak District office of Environment issued a permit for breeding of CITES I, II and III birds. (View copy of permit.)
The District office of Environment is the local authority of the Ministry of Environment (the main Slovak authority for CITES agreements). With the appropriate permits it finally meant no holds barred!
Marian immediately began buying exotic birds inside Europe. The system was simple: buy only young birds, buy only birds bred in captivity. Up do this day Marian does not crossbreed species.
His first birds were African Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus), Macaws (Ara Ararauna, Ara macao) and some Amazonas. After his first humble breeding success he decided to be an - almost - fulltime breeder.
Parrotvilla today
Today our farm has around 34 species, 92 CITES I and 110 CITES II birds. We bred until today approximately 100 birds. The first 4 years we had no eggs, we had to rear our babies until they became adults and could begin to have offspring of their own. In the first half of 2009 nearly 50 birds hatched - our pride and joy. For the next year we hope to have more than 100 new hatched birds.
At the moment we hold 23 species and sub-species of Amazons, 8 species of macaws, 1 african grey specie and 2 species of Cockatoo. Our short term goal is to increase our stock to around 40 species.
Marian personally cares about all breeds and employs studied ornithologists and veterinarian experts.
Today the farm is bigger, more surrounding land was bought, we have a total of 7 buildings dedicated exclusively to exotic birds, 165 aviaries, our own adjacent BIO fruit plantation to feed the birds, a nursery, a quarantine aviary and an enhanced professional team. Marian is still running it as his private farm, living closely with his winged friends even in his personal living quarters where he hand feeds his 'babies'.
We are from day to day more experienced and with our birds our dreams and plans have risen as well.
