Our Aviary

Currently our aviaries and bird enclosements are on 4 hectares (10 acres) of land. We expanded the local flora by many new trees and deepened the already existing lake so as to accommodate more fish. Many different fish species live now in our lake which we allow to be used for sustained sport fishing. Overall we believe that our piece of nature with our private lake and bird buildings turned out to be rather nice.

A wooden log-cabin style house - completely renovated in 2008 - is located right next from the Aviaries, this is where our Marian lives.

The aviaries encompass 2700 m² (29000 sq.ft.)

We have 2 sizes of aviaries.

For Macaw:

• Indoors: 7 m long x 1.8 m wide x 2.5 m high (23’ x 6’ x 8’)*
• Outdoors: 10 m long x 1.8 m wide x 2.5 m high (32’ x 6’ x 8’)*

For Amazona and African grey parrot:

• Indoors: 4 m long x 1.2 m wide x 2.2 m high (13’ x 4’ x 7’)*
• Outdoors: 6 m long x 1.2 m wide x 2.2 m high (20’ x 4’ x 7’)*

Indoor and Outdoor enclosements are always interconnected.

Slovakia is located in central Europe and has a soft climate. Although we have hot summers up to 35°C (95°F), during winter temperatures can drop to - 20°C (-5°F). During the planning project we had to take these factors into consideration and use appropriate insulating materials.

Air moisturizing showers (water atomizers) control the right levels of humidity.

The roofs of each enclosement have automatically operated window panes that allow an additional regulation of fresh air circulation, natural sun light and air humidity, while keeping birds in with protective wire mesh.

A centralized heating system ensures right temperatures. Close circuit surveillance TV cameras supervise each aviary and every nest. The system allows instant visual control, keeps records and stores all information for months.

Newcomer birds are checked into our quarantine building with 12 special enclosements. There they stay until we can be sure about their health, minimum however 3 months.

A utility side building holds facilities for storage of food, a kitchen and the nursery.
